Amaryllis, Asiatic, Calla, Day lily, Gloriosa and Oriental Hybrid
Philadelphia Flower Show and Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania, and the Ashokan Catskills, New York, 2012-2018
Orange day lily (Hemerocallis fulva) in the Ashokan Catskills, New York, 2012-2015.
The orange day lily is considered native in the Eastern USA even if it escaped from its native China in the 19th century. It is also considered an invasive plant in its new homeland.
Found up and down the east coast, this lily blooms all summer and well into autumn. It presents in shades which range from brick-sienna to all the carats of gold.
The tiny trout lily, the orange day lily, and the tall Canadian lily seem to be the only lilies native to the east coast of the US.

Of the common decorative lilies, Amaryllis, Asiatic, Calla, Gloriosa and Oriental Hybrid, the amaryllis has had cult-like status for years which seems now to have been overtaken by a passion for orchids.
