Bush clover (Lespedeza thunbergii), imported from the Far East in the late 18th century, is among the last of the bushes to flower at Winterthur, Delaware.

Its flowers are sometimes added to salads.

Planted beneath oak trees on a small hill, the bushes can be seen like a greeting to the first chill in the air.
And a reminder of the long season of colours and scents I have enjoyed rolling across these grounds since late March.
A very large gift every year for the last 28 years.

What wonderful images!
I didn’t even know about the existence of bush clover.
Thank you for your comment, Luisa. This bush arches into luxurious fountains and it also has a white-flowering variety. You may recognize it in these forms?
