Autumn crocus (Colchicum autumnale: not a true crocus, completely toxic with no known antidote)
at Winterthur, Delaware on September 19, 2021
Legacy of Henry Francis du Pont, 1880-1969, American
My camera closed down twice when faced with such delicate, if poisonous, beauties straining towards the sun
while others were in clover on an exposed hillside, in full flush…
And while hardy begonia (Begonia grandis), which the camera seems to love every early Autumn, sun or shade,
colonizes any support it finds, flourishing apparently without strain,
in sun or shade…
Crocus field like a chore de ballet dancing i n the breeze. Lovely, despite what it did to your camera.
