Flowers of the flame buckeye and the bleeding heart
When the redbud begins to let fall its flowers,
the huge conical candelabra of the flame buckeye (Aesculus pavia) mature.
It is a member of a family of buckeye trees, all native. Completely poisonous.
Like redbud, the flame buckeye is small enough to have been planted on our city streets.
