Commissioned in 1934 by Nelson Rockefeller from Henri Matisse (1869-1964, French) as a painted surround for the fireplace of Rockefeller’s 5th Avenue apartment, NY. The canvas was composed in France and sent to New York.
On loan for display in 2011 at the Metropolitan Museum, NY.
