Spanish bluebells for a late Spring moment

Winterthur, Delaware is the legacy of Henry Francis du Pont, 1880-1969, American

When the hardy azaleas and the rhododendrons begin to bloom in May on their celebrated acres in Winterthur,

Spanish bluebells (Hyacinthoides hispanica) seize a moment in the sunlight.

Mostly blue-lilac, some paler than others. A few white ones.

Just for a moment before the flowers of azalea

and rhododendron

and native dogwood lift our eyes and float our spirits above ground through the month of May.
