The winged euonymus has begun to turn

Winterthur, Delaware, legacy of Henry Francis du Pont, 1880-1969, American

Winged euonymus (Euonymus alatus)

a native of the Far East, a very beautiful tree, considered invasive and banned in New England,  has at least two mature examples at Winterthur.

The tree’s leaves are usually the first to turn red in autumn.

So now we know that that is it for this year: cold is coming.
