Orchids at Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania, 2009-2020; and at the Philadelphia Flower Show, 2009-2015
Longwood Gardens: pleasure gardens, conservatory and research establishment, legacy of Pierre S. du Pont, 1870-1954.
Longwood has a collection of approximately 2200 mostly epiphytic orchids out of an estimated 30,000 species and more than 150,000 patented hybrids in the world.
Longwood’s orchids are rotated in its orchid house when they are in bloom. In February and March, there are orchid displays throughout its conservatory. These are not native to the US.
The Philadelphia Flower Show takes place in March every year and is a fundraiser for the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. Orchids are often among its juried flowers.
