The Painted Lady Receiving Admirers

The Painted Lady  (Cynthia Vanessa Virginiensis) at table on a spike gayfeather.  Mt. Cuba, Hockessin, Delaware every Summer.

When she flies, it is all flashing black and gold on the upper side of her wings. With white highlights.

It is barely surprising that so fabulous a creature is found on every continent (except Antarctica and Australia).  The trade winds have loved her for millenia.
