An abstract expressionist of the second generation, she was a rare woman to have been recognized with critical and public acclaim in the North American 20th century of art.


She named this work after the song of this name written by Édith Piaf and Louiguy and Marguerite Monot in 1945 and popularized by Édith Piaf the following year.
